Originally founded 3 years ago as a sole trader, the team has now grown to 4 full time members of staff and has seen the size of their order book rapidly grow since engaging in GrowthAccelerator.

Delivered by St John’s Innovation centre on behalf of the GrowthAccelerator Consortium, the service helps England’s brightest growing businesses achieve their ambitions with rapid, sustainable growth. It enables business to discover the real issues that could be holding them back, define the right growth plan and open doors to world class business experts and networks. GrowthAccelerator provides access to some of the UK’s top business coaches for one-to-one support, guidance and coaching.

Simple Safety Advice Ltd was delighted to be accepted on to GrowthAccelerator. They needed to be clear on which ideas they should pursue to maximise value within the business and so begun scoping out a package of coaching support with their Growth Manager Kirsten Masson, based on achieving a set of key objectives needed to deliver the vision and strategy enabling the business to maximise their growth opportunity and achieve their ambitions.

Following the initial growth potential assessment Kirsten successfully matched Simple Safety Advice Ltd with their coach Sharon Stevens – a professional business coach with over 25 years experience of working in blue chip businesses and with some of the UK’s fastest-growing small businesses.

Sharon worked with the company to take a planned approach to sales and marketing and securing the right customers for the business and helped to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the growing team.

Only a few months into coaching the business has seen a transformation in staff attitudes and the ability to better service their clients and take on new orders. Managing Director, James Cumming believes the improvement comes from having clarity in what they do, and being able to define and understand the business USP, which has led to changes in how they operate and think about things on a daily basis.

The company has high aspirations for the future with a forecasted 60% increase on their turnover this year and are looking to sustain this level of growth over the next three years, whilst also continuing to grow their team of core consultants and branch out into different geographies; they have already begun some work in Scotland and potentially would like to open an Australian office.

James Cumming speaks very supportively about their coaching experience:

“Coaching shouldn’t be seen as ‘how much is this going to cost me?’ but more ‘where is this going to get me?’  We all think as directors or business owners that we have everything under control because we are profitable, but this is not always the case. Coaching is an integral part of identifying this and becomes a valuable part of effectively managing a business. It becomes part of the business process not another additional cost”.

The company have some innovative market leading ideas in the pipeline and have recently launched their pilot video communicated ‘Toolbox Talks’ offering quick, easy and precise advisory talks that businesses can use to educate their members of staff on health and safety issues.

Simple Safety Advice Limited is one of 72 companies across the greater Cambridgeshire and greater Peterborough region to benefit from GrowthAccelerator since it launched in May 2012.
