The programme consisted of a masterclass growth planning day and one-to-one coaching. During the masterclass, the management team of each business worked with a coach to determine their strategic priorities for growth and develop a tailored action plan – before progressing to coaching. Key areas covered include: leadership and management capability, market understanding, innovation, supply chain management, operational issues and skills development.
Working with a coach enabled the businesses to focus on management structure and internal processes with a clear vision and growth strategy. Meerkats and Avatars
Meerkats and Avatars was an event held in 2010 and 2011 which aimed to help early-stage companies to promote themselves to potential investors and the media.
A practical and intensive Comms and PR Workshop helped entrepreneurs improve their own media relations and communication and to understand what is required in order to direct someone else. The workshop covered how to prepare persuasive positioning statements through creating strong press releases, identify key audiences and influencers, raise a business profile within the media, and communicate effectively with key audiences via print, broadcast and online channels.
Following the intensive support workshops, up to 16 companies were offered 1:1 support to assist their development of media materials, leading to the opportunity to exhibit at Meerkats and Avatars 2011. At this event entrepreneurs with innovative technologies and near-market products met technology journalists face-to-face and pitched to investors. Exhibitors at similar events (Meerkats and Avatars 2010) received significant market awareness and extensive national press coverage, including from the BBC and the Guardian.
