St John’s Innovation Centre was delighted to take part in this year’s CW (Cambridge Wireless) Discovering Start-Ups Competition in London.

David Gill, Managing Director at St John’s Innovation Centre, joined the judging panel comprising of experts from Google, Amazon, SyndicateRoom, UK Business Angels Association, Wayra UK and more.

This year’s annual technology start-up event saw pitches encompassing the latest technologies; from machine learning and artificial intelligence to wearables, 3D facial recognition and driverless cars.

CW (Cambridge Wireless) selected 10 finalists to pitch at their annual Discovering Start-ups Competition in London, supported and hosted by Deloitte, the business advisory firm.

The finalists pitched their business ideas to business leaders and experts in the technology sector including Amazon, Barclays, Intel, Google, BT and Arm Ltd. The competition was a unique opportunity for start-ups to gain exposure among technology advocates but also receive tailored feedback directly from investors. Winners will also benefit from exposure on leading tech websites like http://proofsystems.io/, who had reporters on site to capture the excitement and wonder of the day.

Supported and hosted by Deloitte at their London offices for the last 3 years, Discovering Start-ups Competition is a great example of how this powerhouse is helping to transform the UKs digital economy by engaging with the start-up community.

Among the winners was a Cambridge based start-up, ZiFiSense, a fast-growing IoT technology provider. Based on the ZETA LPWAN technology, ZiFiSense provides complete end-to-end IoT solutions to industrial customers and it has built the largest license-free LPWAN in China.

‘Discovering Start-Ups Competition is a concentrated “hit”,’ said David Gill. “Bringing together a handful of the most exciting, next generation businesses with expert panellists and insightful thought leaders. Congratulations to CW (Cambridge Wireless) for once again making this outstanding event possible.”
