St John’s Innovation Centre based software consultancy, Green Custard, has supported JLL’s employees through their first UK hackathon, resulting in real-world solutions for this global organisation.
Jones Lang LaSalle Incorporated (JLL), a world leader in real estate services, wanted to stimulate innovation among their UK workforce and see what ideas could be generated internally in order to solve key market challenges through tech. To achieve this, they organised The JLL Hackathon.
Green Custard Directors, Jonathan Custance and James Green, were invited to play an instrumental role in this process by helping guide the finalists through their journey from idea submission to pitch preparation – providing them with digital business expertise and ideation.
“The JLL Hackathon celebrates the intelligence and ambition of JLL’s employees by encouraging the development of innovative tech solutions. With our software expertise and guidance, the participants developed their ideas for new market-facing tools to help both JLL’s clients and the business itself in the real world.” – Jonathan Custance, Director, Green Custard
Each of the finalists were mentored by Green Custard on a 1-2-1 basis over multiple months so that they were ready to battle it out in the ‘JLL Dragons Den’ as the process came to a nail-biting end.
After much debate from the judges, the winning initiative was ‘JiLL’ – a chatbot designed to assist staff – submitted by Richard Sansom. This will now be developed to create a proof of concept tool, with a wider rollout planned following successful trials.
“The support given by the Green Custard team for our first UK Hackathon was invaluable. Their wealth of software expertise and business experience helped the finalists refine their idea but cutting out the noise, focusing on solving the real problem, and fundamentally articulating the value proposition.” – Alex Edds, Director of Innovation, JLL
