Pitchfest start-up launches sales of the first truly flushable wet wipes

Pitchfest finalists and founders of Twipes, a chemical-free ‘biodegradable’ wet wipes, which disperse in water within three hours, have launched their new subscription platform in time for Christmas.

Traditional wipes are behind the 90% of sewer blockages, fatbergs and the river and ocean pollution releasing micro-plastics into our ecosystems. Twipes has the potential to disrupt the global personal care wipes market with their biodegradable, environmentally-friendly product as an alternative to the currently used 11 billion non-biodegradable ‘flushable’ wet wipes in the UK.

Twipes can be used for all personal hygiene needs. They are dermatologically tested meaning they are safe for use as baby wipes and as a personal care product on the face and body to remove makeup.
Ellenor McIntosh and Alborz Bozorgi, entrepreneurs and the winners of the 2017 Mayor of London’s Entrepreneur of the Year student competition for their invention, were among 15 innovative companies pitching to investors during the Pitchfest Showcase Day held in Cambridge.

Pitchfest is the Enterprise Europe Network’s flagship pitch training and showcase programme which helps companies with innovative technologies raise finance. Pitchfest has contributed to major success stories and created a buzz in the UK investor ecosystem.

“Pitchfest has given us a new perspective to pitch to investors in a way that is highly unique. I would recommend anyone who wishes to get in the eyes of investors to apply!” said Ellenor McIntosh, Co-Founder of Twipes.

“Pitchfest gave us a huge platform that Twipes needed to get our name out there to investor networks across the UK,” commented Al Bozorgi, CEO and Co-Founder of Twipes

Founders are now working closely with Kirsten Masson, Enterprise Europe Network Innovation Adviser based at St John’s Innovation Centre on scaling their business.

“We are delighted to work with this ambitious, fast growing, eco-friendly start-up. They have a strong team, disruptive product and a global vision. We are excited to be part of their scale-up journey,” added Kirsten Masson, Enterprise Europe Network Adviser for the East of England.
