St John’s Innovation Centre has made a significant founding donation to the newly established Cambridge 2030 Fund, a community initiative designed to help create a more equal and inclusive city.
Managed by the Cambridge Community Foundation, the fund will support projects across Cambridge, with a particular focus on the Arbury and King’s Hedges wards in North Cambridge. Grants of up to £5,000 will be available to non-profit organisations delivering targeted support for young people and families, including therapeutic services, mentoring, careers guidance, skills development and enrichment activities that build confidence and opportunity.
While Cambridge is globally recognised for its economic success and innovation-led growth, inequality remains a challenge. More than 2,000 children in the city are currently living in relative poverty, with some of the most significant barriers to education, employment and wellbeing concentrated in North Cambridge communities.
As a long-standing part of this local ecosystem, St John’s Innovation Centre is committed to ensuring that the benefits of innovation are shared more widely.
Barnaby Perks, CEO of St John’s Innovation Centre, said: “St John’s Innovation Centre has been at the heart of Cambridge’s innovation ecosystem for nearly 40 years, supporting early-stage businesses as they grow and generate wealth for the city. Based in North Cambridge, we’re proud to support young people from nearby communities to help them make the most of what Cambridge has to offer. There are so many exciting opportunities and incredible businesses here. All of us involved in innovation share a responsibility to ensure that local young people feel the benefits of the economic growth on their doorstep.”
