St John’s Innovation Centre and the Centre for Computing History have announced a new collaboration exploring innovation, ethics, and the social impact of technology, past, present, and future.

This partnership will create opportunities for innovators, entrepreneurs, and visitors to both organisations to reflect on how technology can better serve society. It also includes a series of joint activities as part of Cambridge Wide Open Day on 17 June 2026

As a part of the collaboration, the Centre for Computing History’s Women in Computing: Code for Change exhibition will tour to St John’s Innovation Centre, where it will be on extended public display. This will be accompanied by selected works from the museum’s Broken Tech: Broken Earth project, offering a thought provoking perspective on the relationship between technology and environmental impact.

A key highlight of Cambridge Wide Open Day will be a joint panel discussion, Tech for Good: Past Lessons; Future Choices. This session will bring together voices from across the innovation ecosystem to spark conversation around responsible innovation and the role of technology in shaping a better future.

Additional activities throughout the day will include retro gaming experiences, providing a hands on link to the history of computing, as well as an open drop in session for innovators and entrepreneurs. This session will capture insights into the values, challenges, and principles shaping Cambridge’s innovation landscape today, while also testing interest in a future large scale exhibition comparing innovation culture across generations.

Stephanie Martlew, Chief Operating Officer at St John’s Innovation Centre, said:
“We’re incredibly excited about our partnership with the Centre for Computing History. Our organisations are closely aligned, with a shared ambition to use insights from the past to help shape better innovations for the future. We look forward to creating many meaningful shared experiences for our members and visitors together.”
